Bored crested gecko

To own a pet is a big responsibility no matter how big or small. Most of the time we buy a pet lizard and don’t live up to being good carers by not ensuring their quality of life even though we may buy the most expensive hi-tech reptile tanks and gadgets. When I first got my crested gecko it would just sit around the tank and did nothing, I knew it couldn’t be happy. So I started mixing up the way I used to feed it. Instead of just giving it the food I would partly bury it in the soil or hang it on the branch, of course you can only do this with the solid food like insects. Even putting a live bug in the tank and having the gecko go after it was increasing its quality of life.

The type of bug you choose is important. I’ve tried cockroaches, crickets and ants. The first time, my crested gecko didn’t dig out the cricket and I thought it was not going to work but two days later it did and soon it was climbing up the branch for the other bugs. The live ants were too fast but it did get one when it crawled right up in front of him. Sometimes giving your pet lizard a bit of a challenge can actually improve its life just like any other animal.
