Chameleon escape artist

Even when Lizards were considered as exotic pets in India, we had a pet lizard, a chameleon as a pet. My cousin and I shared the animal as a pet. We shared all the duties in taking good care of our pet. We used to feed him small insects like crickets. We named him Meetu, though it is usually a name for pet parrots. Meetu liked to eat live insects, since we thought it satisfied his hunting instinct. I always tried to keep him away from the eyes of other children, for fear that he might get hurt by them.

But, Hassan my cousin used to show him and boast about the adventures we had with him. Suddenly, one day we found his cage open and Meetu the chameleon was missing. We searched in our entire neighborhood to find him but in vain. We became very unhappy. The next day when we went to school, we had our friend waiting for us with our pet chameleon. We were glad to get him back. We did not believe our friend’s story about a stranger carrying Meetu away, and he rescuing him, though.
