Crested gecko care sheet
Crested geckos are slowly becoming one of the more popular lizards to have as a pet gecko. Maybe it's because they are relatively easy to care for. Or it could be because they just look cool.
Cage A baby crested should be housed in a 10 gallon or less cage. When put into a larger cage -babies tend to stress out and not eat as well. An adult crested should be given a minimum 20 gallon cage with height being the priority over width. this gecko species is quite fond of climbing, but do occasionally like to hide as they do in the wild to sleep on the forest floor. A UVB bulb is not necessary for lighting your pet gecko.This gecko species sleeps during the day, so a "sun ray" equivalent is not required. What is required is to simulate their "photo period" which consists of providing any type of light for 12 to 14 hours a day. Roughly 10 hours of light during the day is required during winter. Usually using florescent light is the inexpensive and preferred route. Temperatures during the day should be maintained at 75° to 80°. Nighttime temps can fall to the mid-60s.To monitor the temperature for your pet gecko, you need to purchase a thermometer or temp gun. A lot of owners of crested geckos use a red or blue -low wattage heat light during the night which provides a little bit of heat while at the same time -lighting the cage so the owner can observe its nocturnal pet gecko. This type of gecko species is not bothered by the red or blue light during the night.
Food Quite a few owners feed this gecko species with a formula called the "crested gecko diet". Some of them do this without adding any insects whatsoever. Google it. I think it's a good idea to feed this formula in addition to occasionally supplying crickets and feeder roaches.Your crickets or roaches should be gut loaded with nutritious vegetables and fruits at least 24 hours before you feed them to your crested gecko. At least two times per week, no more than three, you should "dust" the insects with a calcium powder and occasionally calcium powder with vitamin D. As far as water is concerned when providing crested gecko care, you will want to spray mist their cage at least once a day with lukewarm water -preferably filtered. This gecko species will usually lick some of the water off of their nose or the glass of the cage they're in. As with any other gecko species you will want to read a book or two about your pet gecko, and study many different care sheets on this gecko reptile.
