iguana for the holidays...

Iguana story... Summer was right around the corner, and I was thrilled! I was looking forward to two months of no school, no responsibilities. On the last day of school, my science teacher, who somehow had labeled me as his favorite student, said he had a little favor to ask of me. Looking to get a few last good marks
before the school year ended, I agreed. He explained that he would be away for the first month of the school holiday and needed someone to keep our science room mascot, Indo, the Iguana. I gulped, imagining my mother?s reaction when I brought home the green and scaly iguana character. However, I could not back out
now, and that afternoon, trudged home with Indo. My younger brother was thrilled. My mother was not. I explained the situation and she reluctantly agreed to the situation.

She even dug out our unused fish tank from the garage and showed me how to build an iguana terrarium. It was, of course, my duty to care for the iguana, who my brother dubbed Mr. Scaley. My brother and I had fun seeing the reactions of the neighborhood girls when we took Indo for a walk, complete with collar and leash. By the time my science teacher returned, Indo had become so beloved by our household that we opted to keep him for the remainder of the
summer. Although my summer vacation was not exactly what I had expected, it was better. Indo the iguana had brought our family together in a different sort of way; I think we were better for it.
