The crested gecko whisperer

I had a crested gecko I had purchased from a pet store when I was in high school. I bought him a clear plastic cage and kept him in my room on a bookshelf next to my bed. After a few days
of contemplation, I decided on naming him Buster because he had begun to demostrate a talent for getting out of his nice little home I made for him. Although, partly it was my fault for
being a bit too nervous to snap on the lid fully for fear that in the event the cage fell off the shelf that little Buster would get smashed between the lid and his water dish, he also
didn't seem to attempt his escapes too often. Even if he did, I would just find him sunning himself near my window.

However, one day I was carrying a pretty realistic looking stuffed
animal into my room when I spotted my crested gecko Buster once again sunning himself outside of his cage. I set down the stuffed animal next to him to scoop him up and as soon as he got
one look at the toy he ran for the hills. I had to chase him all over my room and he had never protested to me picking him up before.

Suspecting that the reaction was because of the stuffed animal, I wondered what would happen if I propped the toy near his favorite escape route. Just out of fun, I went ahead and tried it. Buster never dared his escapes again. I did take him out myself for him to bask in the sun every once in a while however.
