my beardie is ill...

My bearded has been neglected by previous owners and the result of that is he is very skinny, dont hardly move and he dont eat bugger all. I understand that moving him to another home may upset him but he was like this before I moved him.. What's the best way to get him back into a good state? He was very lively and always eating when my mate first got him.

My response:

I would take him to the vet. One thing you can do is at least bathe him so he can get hydrated. Is it winter where you are? If it is he might be brumating, -mine is. When they hybernate
they don't eat anything, but do need to be soaked in shallow water so they can absorb some water into their system (every two weeks).

I also rescued a Beardie. She was very thin and very sick. If I haden't gotten her when I did she would have died within the next few days to a week or two at the most. When I got her I had my cousin help me force feed her some collard greens and a small mealworm. I knew that I did all i could do so I put her back in her cage and some food in there. It was a long night, but she started to eat on her own and got much better. Of corse it was summer then. But if your Beardie doesn't start getting better by summer I would suggest force feading him some collard greens-but not to much at a time- because they are high in calcium and a small mealworn or two because they are high in protien. It helped my Beardie, maybe it will help yours. Best of luck. My prayers are with you and your Beardie. May he start to get better soon.
